Jimmy’s Racing

2011 – Meeting all our goals for the season,  Jimmy scored his second career Fremont win on July 9th, 12 top 5 finishes, 17 top 10 finishes, and earned the “Hard Charger” award twice. Jimmy qualified for every A-main entered in the 2011 season.

Without any finishes out of the top 5 the last half of the year, Colvin Racing is looking forward to the 2012 race season.

2010- Jimmy finished the season with a 5th place overall points at Fremont Speedway and the F.A.S.T Attica/Fremont series. Jimmy competed in 12 of the 13 A-mains at Fremont Speedway, missing only opening night’s feature. He scored 8 top 10 finishes, including five top five runs. Jimmy scored his first career Fremont win on July 3.  Jimmy’s average A-main finishing position was 7th.

2009- Completing a successful season meeting all of our goals we were very happy about 2009. We met our goal of making the majority of the A-mains entered by making all but one due to a rear end failure. Another goal was a top ten in points finishing eighth in points at Fremont Speedway. Our best finish was a second place finish at the 305 invitational.

2008- Jimmy made the switch to dirt racing, so the 2008 year was another learning year for the team. The dirt racing offered more competitors with many nights around 40 cars in his class. Jimmy raced mostly Fremont and Attica for the 2008 season with the exception of 2 nights we went back to race pavement. One at Lorain where he sat 3rd quick time and finished 7th, and Sandusky’s Cavalcade where we were permitted to tag the tail since we raced the night before at Fremont when Sandusky was running their heat races. Jimmy ran real good coming from the tail to 5th.  Our best finishes on dirt for the 2008 season was a 3rd place with the wing on and 4th for his first time on dirt without the wing. Our plan for 2009 is to concentrate on dirt mostly with an occasional pavement race.

2007 – Jimmy raced a full season with the Buckeye Super Sprints again for the 2007 season finishing 2nd in points at Sandusky Speedway. Jimmy won his first Buckeye Super Sprint feature during the season along with a Dash race, and heat race wins. He was fast qualifier twice during the season, and holds the Non Wing track record for Sandusky Speedway. The list of tracks that Jimmy was permitted to race in this season has grown with the addition of Kil-Kare Speedway, Toledo Speedway, and Lorain Speedway. Concentrating more on the Sprint car this year Jimmy only raced the Kart 3 races during the 2007 season, 2 times on dirt, and once on asphalt winning all 3, and bringing his career total feature wins to 118. Jimmy will be racing dirt along with asphalt Sprints for the 2008 season.

2006 - Jimmy ran a full schedule with the Buckeye Super Sprints with 2 top 5 finishes and 5 top 10 finishes. He also made the dash (fastest 4 cars for the night) 4 of the 12 races. Jimmy ended the Buckeye Super Sprint season with winning the dash and finishing 5th in the 2006 Cavalcade. Jimmy drew a lot of attention during the 2006 season due to his being 13 years old, and was interviewed on the front stretch in front of the crowd several times during the season along with being on the Toledo 24 news with his car for an interview. Through out the season he did several interviews on 99.1 FM, 92.1 FM, and 102.7 FM. Jimmy also race a limited schedule in the Sr. Outlaw Karts winning 8 out of the 9 races he entered bringing his total career feature wins to 114. He also won the 2006 Sandusky Speedway True Rookie of the year in the Buckeye Super Sprints, Sandusky Speedway Sr. Outlaw Championship, and the Ohio Nationals Sr. Outlaw Championship.

2005 - Jimmy started the season racing Sr. Outlaw class on dirt and WKA Jr.3 on asphalt. He ended the season with 33 feature wins with feature wins at 6 different tracks. He also won 4 championships, Burris Northern National racing series Sr. Open class, Great Lakes Speedsports Sr. Outlaw class, Sandusky Speedway Sr. Outlaw class, and Fremont Raceway Park Jr.3 asphalt oval class. Jimmy had showed a lot of interest in racing a Sprint car and part way through the 2005 season the opportunity opened up for him to race with the Buckeye Super Sprints at Sandusky Speedway. He had the opportunity to practice in the car several times before his first race, but because of prior commitments to racing for points at several different tracks, and series in the Kart, he had only one opportunity to race the sprint car. Jimmy made his debut in the sprint car in the 2005 Cavalcade. He qualified well and made the A main through his heat race, but had to pull off the track with power steering troubles in the feature. Jimmy drew a lot of attention being the youngest driver (12 years old) to race with the Buckeye Super Sprints.

2004 - Jimmy set his sights on winning a new class that was started at Lil Indy race track. The class was JR. Outlaw (an open class but must use a 5 hp Briggs block). With the support of Rice Racing Engine, Jimmy raced both the JR. Pro, and JR Outlaw at Lil Indy winning both classes for the year. Jimmy also raced the Adult Open class at 5 other tracks around Ohio winning features at all of them bringing his total to 32 feature wins and 3 track championships for the 2004 season. Jim raced the most races in a year up to date, racing Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan.

Jimmy had the opportunity to Hotlap a 600 Minisprint at the end of the season, which sparked a new goal!

2003 - Jimmy started racing 2 classes regularly, the JR.2 and the JR. Pro.  Half way thru the season Jim sparked interest from Rice Racing engines and picked up a partial sponsorship. With Rice Racing Engines helping out with our Open Motors, Jim ended the season with 1 Track championship, Second place in points at Lil Indy in the Jr. Pro and Third place in the Blue plate, and 17 feature wins.

2002 - Jimmy moved to the WKA JR. 2 class winning another Track Championship and winning 12 features between 2 tracks in that class. At the end of the season Jimmy raced his first race in the JR. Pro class (open class). Doing well in the Jr. Pro class, set our sights in this class for the 2003 season.

2001 - Jimmy moved up to WKA JR.1 class winning his first Track Championship and again winning 6 feature wins for the year.

2000 - Started racing Kid Karts at 7 years old with 6 feature wins at 2 different tracks for the season.
